A few weeks ago former Israel Prime Minister Ehud Olmert blasted Israel’s military conduct in Gaza as a war crime. In an op-ed in Haaretz newspaper he asked “What is it if not a war crime?” questioning Israel’s military action in Gaza. Genocide and war crimes are happening in Gaza right now.
On June 28, 2025 two Israeli human rights groups, B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights Israel, have accused Israel of “committing genocide” against Palestinians in Gaza.
Meanwhile the third-world standard politicians in Canada, regardless of political party affiliation, are dancing around the war in Sri Lanka that had ended 16 years ago and Black July that happened in Sri Lanka 42 years ago. Theone and only intention of these low-grade politicians is harvesting Canadian Tamil’s votes by salting the exploitable old wounds.
On May 18, 2025 Canadian Liberal Prime Minister Mark Carney released a statement to mark “Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day”. How much did Carney care to cry for the Tamils in Sri Lanka while the war had been happening until 2009, or since it had ended 16 years ago? Why did he start to cry this year? It is because, as a newly bought politician in Canada, he now needed the Tamil Canadians’ votes.
On July 23, 2025 Carney released another statement saying “Canada stands with Tamil-Canadians”. That is a big, fat lie. The truth is Carney and most Canadian politicians only ‘stand with Tamil-Canadians’ votes’, nothing else.
Does Carney have the willpower to refer to what is happening in Gaza as genocide? If not, can he justify it is not? Milking out of a war that had ended 16 years ago and a pogrom that happened 42 years ago while pouring fuel to ongoing genocide in Gaza is so pathetic.
Like most other Canadian politicians Carney will also stop crying for Sri Lankan Tamils after he leaves politics.
On January 18, 2025, Pierre Poilievre, then the leader of the Conservative party, also said as a Prime Minister he would take Rajapaksa to the International Criminal Court (ICC). But the same Poilievre called Canada executing an ICC arrest warrant on Israeli PM Netanyahu as ridiculous. He too was trying to harvest Tamil Canadians’ votes by salting the old wounds while fueling the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Not just at the national level, but even provincial and city politicians in Canada are starting to harvest cheap Tamil votes by shredding crocodile tears for the war that had ended 16 years ago while willfully encouraging ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Patrick Brown, the current mayor of Brampton, Ontario, inaugurated the Tamil Genocide Monument in Brampton on May of 2025. Where was he when the war in Sri Lanka intensified in 2009? Did he care to erect a Tamil Genocide Monument in Barrie, Ontario in 2009? No, because there wasn’t a sizable Tamil vote in Barrie for him to milk at that time.
Would Patrick Brown care to erect a Palestinian Genocide Monument in Brampton? Again there is no sizable Palestinian vote in Brampton to milk either.
One of the mainstream Canadian politicians who had harvested Tamil Canadians votes in the early days was Jim Karygiannis, the former Liberal MP for Scarborough-Agincourt. He even went to Northern Sri Lanka to meet LTTE. How much energy does he spill towards Sri Lankan Tamils these days? Hint; he isn’t looking to harvest Tamil votes any more.
Do any of these politicians have moral ground to talk about genocide or war crimes?
Yes, like in every war, the war in Sri Lanka went through all kinds of horror too. But these politicians should understand that the Sri Lankan forces are at least one step better than the army they support in Gaza.
When it comes to genocide, unfortunately these dirty politicians have a twisted preaching; genocide them, not us. That is how they civilize.
